New diabetes drug takes different approach to blood glucose control

Most blood glucose medicines work to control blood glucose levels by preventing your body from absorbing too much sugar from the foods you eat.  A new medicine, called Farxiga, uses a different approach to controlling your diabetes. Farxiga helps your body gets rid of excess sugar from the foods you eat through your urine.  This medicine has some side effects such as possible urinary tract infections, but has been approved by the Food and Drug Association (FDA) for safety in humans.  Although this new medicine does not replace the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, it may be able to boost your current regimen to keep your diabetes under control!
