Diabetes UK partnership with Tesco yields 40 per cent income increase
Charity Diabetes UK’s income has grown by 40 per cent thanks to their corporate partnership with Tesco supermarket.
The corporate partnership has seen £12 million raised for the charity through specific fundraising events, promotional items and also through 0.0125 pence being raised each time someone uses a Tesco ATM cash machine. Diabetes UK’s income rose from £27.8 million in 2012 to £38.8 million in 2013. This therefore represents a 39.6% rise in income on the year before.
Diabetes UK reports that the boost in funding has enabled them to fund wide ranging support for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Diabetes UK’s recent work has included their largest type 2 diabetes awareness campaign, an e-learning programme for people with type 2 diabetes and lobbying which resulted in a change to legislation that will see improved care in school for children with type 1 diabetes.
In addition, Diabetes UK continues to fund a range of research projects and aims to contribute over £7 million of funding specifically towards diabetes research.
